Fraser Island Pics

Fraser Island, (or K’gari) is both incredibly unique and wildly beautiful.  World heritage listed since 1992, it has many amazing features including:

  • The title of the world’s largest sand island
  • Half of the world’s perched lakes
  • The world’s largest perched lake
  • The giant king fern which at 8m in length, has reputedly the largest fronds of any fern on earth
  • 1200 year old trees, greater than 4m across the trunk growing in sand

Now for the fun part!   Whilst Fraser Island has some resort and hotel style accommodation, it is best experienced in a tent, with a 4WD and a fishing rod.

As promised, here are my Fraser Island Pics

The beautiful (and popular) Lake McKenzie. It’s best to arrive early here to stake out the best spot and ensure you get a park before the tours come through for the day.

The water is crystal clear and freezing cold at Eli Creek. Grab a floaty, wade up the end and float all the way back down!

Possibly the most awesome highway I have ever driven on!

Views from the Sandy Cape Lighthouse. It’s a bit of a hot sweaty hike up to the lighthouse, but it’s absolutely worth the effort.

Lake Wabby is definitely worth the hike in! Don’t attempt this without shoes. That sand gets extremely hot!

Lake Wabby up close and emerald green in all of it’s glory. It’s one of the few lakes on Fraser Island that supports fish life.

The well known 75 mile beach ‘highway’. This image was taken near Dundubara camp grounds and Wungul Sand Blow.

Lake Allom isn’t as pretty as some of the other lakes, but it has a great walking track around it and is full of curious turtles.

The tannin stained waters of Lake Boomanjin, the largest perched lake in the world!

Lake Birrabeen is just as beautiful as Lake McKenzie, but minus the crowds

The champagne pools are clear and full of fish. The best time to visit with kids is at low tide.
